Legislative Recess

The bills have passed, the vetoes handed down, and the Legislature is on recess until January 5th. Governor Newsom acted on 1,042 bills this session and is the undisputed most liberal Governor in California history, according to LA Times columnist George Skelton. Although we disagree with the “grade” Skelton gave Newsom (a B-), we agree the government took more control over our lives than ever before. Read the article HERE. It is a good summation of all the bills we’ve been tracking (and mostly opposing) as a Federation.

Since the Legislature will not return to Sacramento unless an extraordinary session is called by Governor Newsom, the Capitol Update will be taking a break. We will resume with the return of the Legislature for the second year of the legislative session.

Celebrating 95 Years of the CFRW

Last weekend 400 California Federation of Republican Women, their guests, and 30 College Republicans gathered in Bakersfield for our 41st Biennial Convention. We celebrated our 95th anniversary in style with a wonderful convention, thanks to Convention Chair, Diane McGlinchy. We thanked our outgoing Executive Board for their 2-years of service and welcomed our new board to the team! Here are your newly elected officers for the 2020-2021 CFRW Executive Board:

President- Sue Blaire

First Vice President- Janet Price

Second Vice President- Betty Scheidt

Third Vice President- Cynthia Thacker

Fourth Vice President- Deborah Moore
